Back from a week of fly fishing the Columbia river BC

We are back from a terrific week on the Columbia river, in the west Kootenays of BC. The weather was very sporadic, with everything from snow, to blazing sun! The bug hatches were much the same, sporadic! It didn't seem to matter though, as we landed great fish day in, and day out on Mayflies, Stoneflies, Ants, and a variety of streamers. We saw bear, deer, mountain goats, wild turkeys, and a beaver. Everyone had a great time, and can't wait to return next year.

Bows, Bucks, and 'Bows!

Just returned from my annual late season archery hunt for whitetail deer. This year was drastically different conditions than I'm used to for this hunt! It was very mild and wet making the hunting more challenging. I still managed to harvest another nice buck for the season with the bow! On a plus note, the river I hunt along is usually frozen and covered in snow, so this trip between hunting in the morning and evenings I managed to to slip a few casts in here and there! The river was just starting to ice up but I managed to find some rainbows swinging an "electrik" leech on a floating line, very cool :)

Remote fly fishing

Got to spend a few days exploring some of the boat access only areas, and with the higher water from the snow melt things went well! Mananaged some beautifully fish on the fly rods with a great gentleman named Ian from the UK. He managed to catch 5 different species of fish including, rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, dolly varden, mountain whitefish, and bull trout! Enjoy a couple of pics from the last few days!

Interior Trout.......

Well, I started this whole blog thing with the best of intentions, but am now realizing how hard it is to keep up! The weather is finally getting decent, and the rivers are rising like crazy so maybe I'll have a bit more time now.
I just returned from a week of still water fishing for trout in the interior. The weather was very cold and wet, much different than the last few seasons. The fishing was fantastic though, with all the guy's catching loads of rainbows.
We hit quite a few lakes over the week, some of them didn't have a single person at them. I had heard rumors that a lot of lakes winter killed, and was a bit concerned. We did see evidence of partial winter kills but all in all, every lake fished great. Saw dozens of Bald Eagles this trip due to the dead fish floating around, and as usual saw plenty of flora and fauna that differs from our day to day critters here in the Valley.
Fish were feeding on a real variety of bugs and we were able to catch them on all methods, chironomid fishing, retrieving nymphs, and of course draggin' the odd leech pattern on the way out to our spot of choice.
