Yes, I have a "Real Job"!!!!!

If I had every person that has said, "this isn't a job", or "you've got the best job ever", or my favorite, " when I die, I want to come back as Erik", put a loonie in a bucket, I could buy a new boat!! I'm not saying that I don't agree, but a lot people have a different idea of what my job is! %95 of my family and friends believe that I just fish all day, but in fact I never fish, when the fishing is good I'm busy helping others catch them. If I'm not working it means that the fishing is slow so I'm busy doing other things. BUUUT, on occasion, you happen to spend the day with someone who doesn't mind sharing stories and a bit of their water with you which is exactly the situation I had yesterday....... Thanks Chris!
Man it felt good to stretch the arms a bit, and stay a bit warmer in this lovely summer weather?!
A few pics from my day,
Enjoy

KIds, Tourists, and Sturgeon

Been filling the gaps between fly fishing trips with a few enjoyable afternoons sharing some secrets of the Fraser rivers least known about critters. Was really reminded by the looks on the faces of both young and old, how lucky I am to live, and do what I do!

And so it begins!!

Well, the Bull Trout season is in full swing after a slower than usual start! And just in time, as I start a busy daily routine of commuting 2 1/2 hours by truck and jetboating another 65 miles every day for the next 3 weeks! I do have one day off in there (july 24th) so if anyones interested now is the best time for Char, and the Chinook and Sockeye are only a few days away. Here's a couple pics from today, shared the river with a doe and her newborn fawn, and helped my client hook into a bunch (double digits!!) Bull Trout on the fly.
Enjoy......

Bull trout pics

Thought I better post some more Bully pics after that last post!

Bull Trout.......

Probably my favorite fishery in the Fraser Valley is just starting to pick up. With the colder, wet temperatures we've been having this year it has started off a lot slower than normal. The fishery I'm talking about is for Sea-Run Bull Trout. These large Char begin making the journey up several coastal rivers to their headwaters where they will spawn in the fall. They are great on the fly rod and can be caught on a bunch of different methods. My favorite (as well as most people I guide) is to swing, and retrieve very large streamers. Typically I have my guests fish different colors and see which one is producing better in that days conditions, but if I have a choice I always grab a BIG black one with lots of movement. Most fish average between 3 and 5 lbs, but I've landed them as big as 14! I would say that no matter how many we hook, or how big they are, the best part about chasing these fish is the places we have to go to catch them. The scenery is fantastic, and as many of you know I have built a boat specifically to get to these types of locations. Its not unusual to see deer, elk, bear, and over the last few seasons, even a wolf or two!

Interior Trout.......

Well, I started this whole blog thing with the best of intentions, but am now realizing how hard it is to keep up! The weather is finally getting decent, and the rivers are rising like crazy so maybe I'll have a bit more time now.
I just returned from a week of still water fishing for trout in the interior. The weather was very cold and wet, much different than the last few seasons. The fishing was fantastic though, with all the guy's catching loads of rainbows.
We hit quite a few lakes over the week, some of them didn't have a single person at them. I had heard rumors that a lot of lakes winter killed, and was a bit concerned. We did see evidence of partial winter kills but all in all, every lake fished great. Saw dozens of Bald Eagles this trip due to the dead fish floating around, and as usual saw plenty of flora and fauna that differs from our day to day critters here in the Valley.
Fish were feeding on a real variety of bugs and we were able to catch them on all methods, chironomid fishing, retrieving nymphs, and of course draggin' the odd leech pattern on the way out to our spot of choice.

Back online!

Well, I've been out fishing quite a bit lately but have been unable to share much with no internet service for the last week and a half! Giving Telus a bit of a thumbs down at the moment!
Anyways, there is a lot going on right now with a few Steelhead around still, Bull trout fishing just getting underway, and bowhunting for bears should start to improve if the weather warms up. Hope to have some thing to share over the next few days!
I've added a link on the top right hand corner to have updated posts emailed to you as they are posted.
Tight lines,
Erik
